    thanksgiving

I choose to give thanks to God every day, Thanksgiving was one of those days I did that and more.  Thanksgiving is a day of reflection on what we are thankful for. It seems many families experience thanksgiving with different traditions. So in the spirit of being diverse and embracing different traditions my friend Emil (BFF) and I set out on a journey to 7 different houses to shake hands, hug friends, and of course EAT!

As you’re probably quickly realizing, college visits can get old pretty fast, even if (like me) you’re totally passionate about the college search process. Colleges will try to set themselves apart and make their tours and open houses unique, but there’s only so much they can do within that set format.

You, as the visitors, can take matters into your own hands, though.

Instead of being a passive visitor on your next college tour, turn the event into a photo scavenger hunt. The photos will give you a great way to remember exactly which college is which, while also providing you a fun base of comparison. You can make up your own scavenger hunt list based on your criteria for your future college, or you can use the following list I’ve made.

(I must admit that it’s a little biased towards CHC… but what else would you expect from a lifelong Griffin?)

Andréa recently posted a blog of her dorm rooms throughout her years at Chestnut Hill. I strongly agree with her statement about visiting the schools you’re considering and checking out their residence halls. I know I’m in my room a lot (doing homework, hanging out with friends, watching movies, listening to music, or just relaxing on my bed with a book or letter-writing materials) so it’s important to me that I live in a comfortable and cozy place.

The Chestnut Hill College music department put on its second annual student-produced musical, “Godspell,” on January 30 and 31, 2009.

Last year, as sophomores, Kelly Wilson and Mark Urmson first brought a student-produced musical to the Chestnut Hill College stage with “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” After the great success of “Charlie Brown,” Kelly and Mark agreed to turn student-produced musicals into an annual tradition, picking “Godspell” for the next year.

“Godspell,” based on the Gospel according to Matthew, can be a daunting musical to produce, but Kelly (as director) and Mark (as musical director) were able to make CHC’s production a total success. They were aided by sophomores Ashley Pavone, the choreographer, and Patrick Curtin, the set design manager. Five musicians were under Mark’s guidance in the pit band, while Kelly managed the 10 actors on stage.

Although I wasn’t at all the performances, I do know the show was a success from the start: the cast received a standing ovation on opening night!

Check out the great set and the actors at work:

I’m a bit of a night owl. I’m the kind of person who, when home from school for summer, Christmas, or even just a long weekend, gets onto a basically nocturnal schedule. Going to bed between 2:00 and 7:00 a.m. and waking between 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. is the norm, not the exception, in my world.Yet I always run into a problem: the world is designed around a “normal” schedule. That means most stores, restaurants, and even delivery food places close before I’m ready for my last meal of the day.

What’s a girl to do? Search for any late-night or 24-hour locales she can find within a reasonable distance, of course!

    My personal favorites:

It’s always a good idea to visit any schools you’re seriously considering because then you can check out the most important part of campus… the residence halls!

While a tour of the halls can give you a pretty good idea of what’s in store for you, nothing compares to seeing an actual lived-in room. So, I’ve decided to share with you some photos of my rooms over the past three years I’ve been at CHC. And let me assure you… these photos were not taken for any school publication or excessively arranged. They’re the real deal. It’s like Cribs: CHC Edition.

OK, so I’m not actually going to let you look in my closet, but I am going to give you an idea of what it looks like to be a Chestnut Hill College student.

One of the benefits of clubs, teams, and events in college is all the T-shirts and other apparel you get (usually for free). I own more than 25 pieces of CHC apparel, most of which are from specific events and clubs I’ve participated in.

Here’s just a sampling of my 25+ pieces of CHC gear, including a few from the school bookstore. (Ignore the wrinkles!)

At CHC, you know Halloween is almost here when the ghost hunters arrive on campus.

Every year, Student Activities hosts a lecture on ghosts and the paranormal, which is followed by a ghost hunt around the campus. In past years, we’ve welcomed Patti Starr (certified ghost hunter) and Chip Coffey(of Paranormal State and Psychic Kids on A&E). This past Wednesday, renowned demonologist John Zaffis visited CHC to present a lecture on the paranormal, from “possessed possessions” to ghosts and exorcisms, and to tour campus looking for paranormal activity.
