In addition to being Junior Class President, Christina Flouras juggles several other extracurricular activities.  Christina is an executive member of CHAT (Chestnut Hill Activities Team), and FADD (Fighting Against Destructive Decisions).  CHAT comes up with a lot of the fun things that happen at CHC including the popular Harry Potter based sport known as Quidditch.  FADD organizes the events that occur during CHC’s annual Alcohol Awareness Week in order to encourage staying away from making destructive decisions, as its name suggests.

Christina’s responsibilities as Class President include working alongside the Vice President (Ashley Pavone), helping organize Alcohol Awareness Week, planning and executing the Senior Dinner, and organizing our class preparations for Christmas Decorating Night.

Being a people person, Christina’s favorite thing about being la presidente is working with everyone else in SGA.  However, she does state that “It can be pretty busy and hectic at times”.  On top of managing all the previously mentioned activities, Christina also has learned to juggle getting her work done towards her Elementary Education Major and Spanish Minor.  But with the evident success of the Rotunda’s decoration for Carol Night, Alcohol Awareness Week, as well as CHAT’s numerous activities, I think it’s safe to say that the Junior Class is in good hands with Christina Flouras as our president.

    Dear Reader!

Today I’m here with Fran Boshell and Justin Saporito, the senior class representatives on CHC’s Student Government Association board, and I’m here to ask them a few questions so you can understand a little bit more about SGA and how it functions at CHC.

One of CHC’s most popular annual events is the Date Auction.
Yes, a date auction at a Catholic college.

This isn’t like some of those fraternity or sorority sponsored date auctions you hear about, though, for a few key reasons…

Every year, just before Valentine’s Day, CHC’s Student Activities hosts a Create-a-Creature event. You know those Build-a-Bear stores in the mall? Yeah, it’s just like that, except on-campus and FREE.

This year, Create-a-Creature was held on Thursday, February 12, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Mask Corridor (St. Joseph’s Hall). There were 200 animals to stuff, in 8 different varieties: moose, lion, elephant, giraffe, koala bear, black bear, monkey, and cow. Each year, the animals get snatched up more quickly than the last; this year, the Mask Corridor was packed by 12:45 p.m. and the animals were gone by 2:30 p.m.

As an incoming student I am sure that you are wondering what types of activities there are to get involved in at Chestnut Hill College. While there are many activities and clubs, the one that stands out the most is the Student Government Association (SGA). SGA consists of a panel of your peers who are voted into office. SGA is the voice of the student body. At weekly meetings the student government discusses concerns of the student body and works their hardest to improve CHC and meet the needs of every student. SGA host events such as the ice cream social and open forums. Open forums are an opportunity for students to express their concerns and receive answers to any questions they have. In addition, SGA hosts Griffin Week. The events of Griffin Week include: open forums, friendship game show, Mr. and Mrs. CHC, powder puff football game, and piazza dance party. SGA encourages all students to come out and get involved. It is important that everyone’s voice is heard.

On the fence about choosing Chestnut Hill for your college experience? I talked to freshman class president John Nguyen and found out what made him ultimately decide to grace our beloved CHC with his presence. John said that one feature which made him choose to attend CHC was the school size.
